To start with a positive note our performance on Sunday was a definite improvement on the two previous games. Due to the fact that I don’t think we could have got any worse I’m not sure how much of a good point this is.
The attitude and commitment were a lot better and I don’t think anyone could be accused of putting in anything less than 100%. The problem with that is ‘Where does it leave us?’ If we all put in 100% and still get tonked 8-2 we’re in a lot of trouble.
I’ve re-read the thread titled ‘Problems’ and there was something posted by ‘unknown’ that has been rattling around my head ever since I first saw it. He thought that the Manager of FC Dynamo was “sucking up to us” for saying our team had “some quality players”. And while I can understand how he came to his opinion I don’t agree with it.
Each time I look at the players in our squad individually I see players who could and should be performing better. If I imagine putting any one of our players in a team at the top of the table, FC Dynamo for example, I honestly don’t think they would look out of place. I’m not suggesting that they’d be a definite starter every week but they certainly wouldn’t embarrass themselves.
It’s as though ‘Team Bridge Inn’ is dragging a lot of player’s performance levels down. But why? And once we’ve sussed that little chestnut out ‘How do we change it?’<br>
Is it that we are just missing a couple of real quality players who instil confidence and belief in the rest of the team? Was it just coincidence that performances and results improved while Glen was playing for us? We even tightened up defensively despite the fact that he played primarily as a striker!! Was he responsible for that improvement or was it just ‘one of those things’!! We’ve steadily got worse since he moved onto pastures new.
I’m sorry if this post has dragged on a bit and I apologise if it seems a bit pessimistic but I really do think that we have to get our heads around this. We’ve conceded 22 goals in just our last three games and we are due to play one of the highest scoring teams in the league on Sunday. I’m worried about what could happen.
We do have good players but we are a very poor team. FACT. I think its time we became more specific about overcoming our problems instead of the usual cover all statements of ‘Try harder’, ‘Less bickering’ and ‘score more goals’.
What are the ‘honest’ views of everyone?
