Tuesday night saw Showboat take on Hope & Glory FC, the previous match between the sides had e
finished with a convincing 12-1 win to the Boat.
The Boat were back to full strength for this fixtue after Gav 'sicknote' Webb was drafted in for the Cat (leaving the power to stake a claim in nets) and Paul 'the daddy' Thompson in for Gaz 'the jock' Munro.
With the new and improved line-up the Boat started brightly, gaining an early 3 goal advantage. This did not last long as some complaicent play led to a Hope & Glory fightback. At 3-2 the Boat looked vunerable and Webb was clearly feeling the need to impress after some poor displays in recent weeks. Goals again began to flow, some fantastic build up play was finished by Jay and Webb.
This hard work was however undone by some unsavoury incidents. First of all was the Boats defending, titus bramble would have been proud of some of the play!
However more shocking than that was Webb's decision to take a dive in the corner with not 1 defender around him. This was not appriciated by his team mates or the crowd, Webb was embarrased and ashamed that he had let the fans down, his team down but most of all himself down.
Anyway back to the game......................the first half after the diving incident passed without further controversy and the boat went in leading (can't remember the score).
The second half was a far closer affair, with the boat hanging on through patches of the game. However some tired opposition and some clinical finishing meant that Showboat ran out 18-9 winners.
This leaves the Boat on top of the rest and still on pole position to take the Div 5 title.
Goal tallies were as follows:
Dan - 3
Gav - 3
Jay - 3
Daz - 3
James B - 6
(I don't know how many anyone scored, so I thought I'd be fair and give everyone a hat-trick.......................and myself 6!!)
