What a start to the season it has been for Showboat FC. After 3 games the boat have the highest amount of goals scored, lowest number of goals conceded (in all 6 leagues) and have appeared on the Powerleague website for best goals per game average.
Spirits were high as the boat were facing 2nd from bottom team Del & Touché. Manager James Butler gave a rare start to Paul Thompson following persistent begging and grovelling. The boat squad is now becoming increasingly hard to break into following a tight team spirit and obviously flowing ability.
The match started tighter than anyone was expecting. A lose pass here and there followed by a miss-placed shot frustrated SBFC with James B having a goal disallowed for being in the area upon contact with the ball. A claim that has been sent to the FA for clarification.
The game started to become a tail of two keepers with both pulling off superb saves and terrific 1-on-1 blocks.
As the 1st half went on the more possession Showboat took but were unable to make a difference in the final 1/4. This lead to a half time 0-0 score line.
Both sets of players were clearly up for the game trying to spur on the others. Daz tried to get el-cap-e-tain James Butler to give an emotional team talk but sadly this didn’t occur.
The second half started as the first half finished. High amounts of possession but nothing to finish the job off. Finally a moment of magic saw Butler rifle the ball in the left hand corner pushing the fans into jubilant cheers.
Relief was noticed on the players faces.
SBFC heads did not slip and an extra amount of commitment and hunger for goals saw Paul Thompson slot in a fantastically worked goal which was passed by every single player. A very well worked move.
Following more minutes of tight possession the showboat players had lapse in concentration allowing Touché to have more and more shots on goal. Sadly converting two of them to level the score. This angered all players, none more than the cat having let on goal under his left paw.
Butler pulled one back.
Following this goal the most controversial moment of the game came when Jason’s hard work earned him a shot on goal. This was then rolling into the bottom corner only to have drinks bottle deflect the ball into inside of the post. The bottle was clearly over the line allowing the ball over the line but the referee to disallow the goal. To the surprise of both sets of players.
A thrid goal shortly came after in return for Touché.
From the kick off came a moment of defining glory with Dan perfectly placing a perfectly pin point placed goal with the goal celebration nearly earning him a yellow card. The level of noise when up remarkably from all members of the team. They deserved the lead.
Daz finished off the night with a well placed goal forcing the keeper to the ground and finishing off perfectly.
With the full time whistle being blown Showboat earned their 5-3 victory. Good handshakes all round as all players knew it was a good game.
Del & Touché can clearly get higher in the league following this performance and Showboat wish them well.
