The Boat continued their recent run of good form by recording a comfortable 13-6 victory over lager legs.
The Boat stamped their authority on the game as soon as the whistle went, quickly finding themselves 3-0 up. This made life comfortable for the Boat and they never looked in danger from this point of letting the game slip away.
With the Cat proving hard to beat on a slippy night down at the Powerleague, the Boat pushed on and despite some sloppy play in the first half found themselves 6-3 up at half time. This again with every member of the team getting on the score sheet (even Daz who managed to beat the keeper from a yard this week!)
Lager Legs did rally at the start of the second half but it was the Boat who showed comanding authority taking the game away from them, during a physical battle. Goals from Webb, Dan and Phil did the damage and put the game out of reach for the opposition.
With the game stretched and teams beginning to tire is was apparent that a couple of players from the opposition would rather have had a fight than play football. With no protection off the ref, the Boat recieved some bad tackles, Phil taking the brunt of these as his feet were just too quick for them. This reached a head when Phil went down with a shrieeeeeeeeeek after being caught late. This Munroesc cry could be heard around Lenton! Phil however picked himself up and continued to torment the opposition along with Dan, Webb and Daz.
The Boat pushed on in the closing minutes and managed to rack up 13 goals in total without a great deal of reply. This was a great team effort that sees the Boat stay top of the league and open up a gap between themselves and third place.
Final score: Showboat FC 13-6 Lager Legs
Goal scorers were as follows:
Webb (still upset about The Blues thrashing on Sunday) 3
Dan 4
James 3
Daz 2
Phil 1
I think this puts Dan ahead in the goalscoring charts if we include last weeks.
Up the Boat!
