The Boat went into last nights game knowing a win would clinch promotion to div 6. This seemed to effect the Boat as they got off to a shakey start, the pitch didn't help either as it was like a skating rink!
The first half was end to end, with both teams having numerous chances. Risk it for a Biscuit (RifaB) seemed to adapt the best to the conditions and took an early lead. The Boat rallied and took the lead 2-1 with some fine possesion play. The Boat then had the chance to increase this lead from the spot, but Webb somehow found the keeper from a yard out!! The Boat were made to pay for this miss as RifaB or should I say stand in keeper Phil Naylor made it 2-2 with a wonderfully taken O.G.
The second half started as the first ended with numerous goal scoring chances, the Boat making the most of thier opportunities to take an early 4-2 lead. This seemed to stun RifaB into action and they were soon back in the game with 5 quick fire goals. The Boat did manage 1 in this exchange of blows but it meant they were staring defeat in the face for only the 4th time this season.
At 7-5 down the Boat were under the cosh and needed to find some inspiration from somewhere. Time was running out and goals needed to be scored. Then out of nowhere the inspiration arrived, within 30 seconds Paul 'Gaymeadow' Thompson had found the top corner twice, leaving the keeper with no chance on both occasions. (I know you probably think I've been drinking, but no........ it really was Paul 'Gaymeadow' Thompson!!!!!).
At 7-7 with only minutes left on the clock the Boat pushed for a winner, this however left Daz, I mean the Boat exposed at the rear and we fell behind again 8-7.
The last 2 minutes tested the Boats resolve and somehow they managed to find some last ditch enery resources after the festive period. The Boat equalised and then in the last 30 seconds Webb made up for his early penalty disgrace by netting the winner. RisfaB were stunned and could not find a reply before the final whistle.
This sparked jubulant celebrations from the crowd, who had come out in force as the knew the Boat had been put on a show court for the season finale!!
The Boat now look forward to a season in Div6, where they hope to maintain their impressive form and seal back to back promotions!!
Up the Boat!
