Our 2007/08 season officially starts this Sunday when pre-season training commences. Those that have been through it before will be familiar with what to expect as it will be similar to previous seasons. However, for those of you who are new to Club there is a brief description below of what to expect.
Date: Sunday 15 July 2007
Venue: Fields at the back of Harvey Hadden Stadium Leisure Centre
Time: 9:30am – 12:00noon
What to bring with you
No kit is provided by the Club for pre-season training sessions so you will need to bring your own. Due to the unpredictability of the British weather it is advisable to bring a variety of footwear. There will be an element of running included in the training so you may want to bring trainers with you. There will also be a number of drills and games involving the ball so you may also want to bring football boots with you. Moulded studs are normally advisable at this time of year but due to the recent weather (which has been experienced on a number of recent midweek football sessions) the ground may be able to take a screw in stud. You may also want to bring shin pads with you.
It is also advisable to bring plenty of drinking water with you. Although there will be some provided by the Club the start of pre-season training normally coincides with the start of a heat wave (Craig, Harry, Gareth you may want to bring some Factor 212!!!).
The training session
Can we please ask that every gets to the venue by 9:30am at the latest. We only have limited time and it’s nice to get things started as soon as possible. Also, as it’s the first session of the season, I’m sure your Manager will want to deliver some rousing words to get you all fully motivated.
The actual session itself can be broken down into roughly two parts. The first half an hour will be fitness based while the remaining time will all be spent using the ball in a variety of games and drills. We’re not of the opinion that we should physically flog you all until you’re sick although we do know that some fitness work is necessary. This means that we do try and maximise your amount of playing time. We try to make each session demanding but also fun to take part in.
And that in a nutshell is it. If you do have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask either Craig or Matt and if you are not able to make any of the training sessions then please let Craig know as soon as possible. It helps us to organise things more efficiently for those that are there.
